Toward a New Challenge from 2020

[SM Steel] Stainles Steel Plate Factory to introduce new levelers in July.

- Established a 100,000 ton/year factory in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do

- Promotions towards end user to take place after introducing the new levelers


SM Steel, SM Group subsidiary, plans to introduce their new leveler by July 2019, and commence promotions and public relations activities towards demand market soon after.



Aside from import products, DKC was the sole manufacturer and supplier of stainless steel plate in South Korea since 1990.

SM Steel declared entry into stainless steel plate manufacturing business earlier this year. The construction of 100,000 ton/year capacity stainless steel plate factory is on the way in its 6,600m2 site in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do.

Its annual sales target is 50,000 tons in domestic market and another 50,000 tons in global market with annual revenue of USD300Mil.

Roll type leveler to be introduced by SM Steel


Moreover, SM Steel invested total of USD150M, comprising of USD60M in securing land and construction of factory, USD75M for procuring equipment, and USD20M as operating capital.

Currently, SM Steel is building a factory that produces products with a maximum width of 4m, a maximum thickness of 200mm, and a maximum length of 14m. In order to provide wide range of products from standard grades to special grades, such as 304/L, 316/L, Duplex, and 6Mo, SM Steel has procured heat treatment furnaces and levelers sufficient for the job.

On the other hand, the roll type leveler introduced by SM Steel is a 4th generation roll type leveler from SteelPlantec, Japan. With the pow of up to 5,700 tons, it has the ability to flatten heavy plates up to 55mm thick at once. In addition, the press-type leveler introduced together is a leveler from KOJIMA, Japan. It can automatically calibrate a thick plate of up to 200mm at a pressure of 2,500 tons even without the help from a skilled worker.
